The brand new two bedroom apartment ‘Près des Forts’ (near a handful of majestic forts built by architect Vauban) is one of our small portfolio of properties that can be booked on a flexible basis, whatever the season. Book three nights (minimum stay), a week or month by month and you’ll have everything you need in this fully furnished, modern apartment situated in the historic walled town of Briançon (the Cité Vauban).
‘Près des Forts’ occupies the ground floor of a large family home. It has a small terrace with outdoor furniture plus a balconette that enjoys a partial view of the mountains and villages to the south. Uniquely for the old town (adorned with cobbled pedestrianised streets) you can drive within 10 metres of your front door. With its own entrance you’ll feel instantly at home.
A handy storage area for equipment such as skis, bikes or climbing gear is immediately available upon entering the apartment. You’re then presented with an open-plan living space combining lounge with TV/DVD and dining area for four, and a very well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher, full-size oven and four hobs and washing machine.
There are two bedrooms which sleep up to four people. The first is a double and the second a bunkbed room (two singles). The family bathroom has a full size bath, WC, sink and hairdryer.
Près des Forts is the perfect retreat for active or relaxing breaks, or for those looking to mix work and pleasure, working remotely from the Alps (there is free wifi and you are welcome to use the facilities of the commercial office next door e.g. printing, scanning, all at cost.)
Within 100 metres are the cobbled streets of the Gargouille (Grande Rue) and Petite Gargouille where you’ll find the weekly market (Tuesdays in summer, Wednesdays rest of the year), patisserie, newsagent, a handful of bars, cafés and a dozen restaurants, souvenir and clothing shops.
The magnificent Collégiale is next to the tourist office, again just 100 metres from the apartment, and whether alone or with family and friends, you can enjoy the history of the old walled town and its surrounding forts on a guided tour – or simply take off with your walking gear in any direction!
The ‘new’ centre of Briançon is just ten minutes walk, there are ‘hypermarché’ supermarkets within two kilometres drive (or a 1€ bus journey from the bus stop which 150 metres walk from the apartment.)
Upon booking, we can also organise summer and winter lift passes at discounted rates (discounts vary depending on the season), winter season passes, discounted equipment hire, British ski coaching and guiding services, delivered meals, childcare, transfers to and from airports such as Turin (Italy) and Grenoble (France) and local train stations (Briançon or Oulx).
