This uniquely placed two bedroom vaulted apartment was completed in January 2018 and is named ‘Maison à Tour 1′. It is one of our growing portfolio of properties that can be booked on a flexible basis, whatever the season. Book three nights (minimum stay), a week or month by month and you’ll have everything you need; fully furnished, modern fittings and situated in the historic walled town of Briançon (the Cité Vauban).
‘Maison à Tour 1’ occupies the ground floor and the original cellars of a large town house. It has a lovely sunny terrasse off the living area with outdoor furniture, and has traditional vaulted ceilings throughout. Enjoy the quiet setting just 50 metres away from the bustling activity of the old town with its sights, shops, cafés, the Italian-owned Pâtisserie Turin (our favourite), restaurants and bars.
Unusally for the old town (adorned with cobbled pedestrianised streets) you can drive within 20 metres of your front door. With two private entrances, you’ll feel instantly at home at Maison à Tour 1.
A handy storage area for equipment such as skis, bikes or climbing gear is immediately available upon entering the apartment. You’re then presented with two vaulted bedrooms; the main bedroom can be a double or twin, and the second bedroom is a twin. A larch staircase takes you up to the ground floor living room, diner, kitchen and bathroom – yes, it’s an upside down house!
On the ground floor, enjoy the open-plan space combining lounge with TV/DVD and dining area for six, and a very well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher, full-size oven and four hobs, plus a washing machine. A large sofa opens up to create a double bed for additional guests.
The family bathroom has a bath with shower, WC, sink and hairdryer.
Maison à Tour 1 is the perfect retreat for active or relaxing breaks, or for those looking to mix work and pleasure, working remotely from the Alps and there is free private wifi.
Some more detail… within 50 metres are the cobbled streets of the Gargouille (Grande Rue) and Petite Gargouille where you’ll find many shops, pâtisseries, supermarket (open every day high season and six days a week low season), newsagent, a handful of bars, cafés and a dozen restaurants, souvenir and clothing shops.
The magnificent Collégiale is next to the tourist office, just 100 metres from the apartment, and whether alone or with family and friends, you can enjoy the history of the old walled town and its surrounding forts on a guided tour – or simply take off with your walking gear in any direction!
The ‘new’ centre of Briançon is just ten minutes walk, there are ‘hypermarché’ supermarkets within two kilometres drive (or free on the local buses, with your guest cards).
Upon booking, we can also organise summer and winter lift passes at discounted rates (discounts vary depending on the season), winter season passes, discounted equipment hire, British ski coaching and guiding services, delivered meals, childcare, transfers to and from airports such as Turin (Italy) and Grenoble (France) and local train stations (Briançon or Oulx).
