“Is there a nearby supermarket?” we are frequently asked. Here we aim to provide the information you need to ensure you have all the food you need for arrival and during your stay.
Serre Chevalier has a great network of small convenience supermarkets wherever you are staying. The larger supermarkets or hypermarchés are found in the main town of Briançon, just five to 15 minutes drive away depending on your accommodation base.
LE MONETIER LES BAINS
There are two Sherpa supermarkets in the village centre, open daily from mid-December to the end of April and in July and August. The opening hours are generally 08:00 – 12:00 then 15:00 – 19:30.
You will also find a fabulous butcher and three bakeries open all year round.
VILLENEUVE
A Sherpa supermarket is located next to the Tourist Office at Pré Long.
CHANTEMERLE
Carrefour Montagne is on the Allée des Boutiques with a number of parking spaces just in front.
In the Serre d’Aigle commercial centre at the bottom of the Piste Luc Alphand, there is a Sherpa supermarket.
BRIANCON
If staying in Briancon or you have a car, you have a superb choice for food shopping.
There are two weekly markets in Briançon; Wednesday and Sunday mornings at rue Colaud.
Intermarché is on chemin Fanton at the entrance to Briançon from Chantemerle, near the large roundabout. There is lots of parking and the premises also houses a sports shop, opticians, pharmacy and electronics shop.
If staying in the old town of Briançon (Cité Vauban), there is a fabulous mini-market shop near the top of the Grande Rue. Prices are slightly higher here than the larger supermarkets however.
Carrefour City is in the middle of Briançon, a convenience store with fresh fruit and vegetables. There are a small amount of parking spaces in front of the store but if you drive alongside the store you will find that you can park underneath the shop and many people don’t know this! Any accommodation based in the centre of Briançon will find this store has everything you need for your holiday.
Leclerc has opened a convenience store in Briançon recently. It is a refreshing change for the locals and has lots of underground parking which is fantastic in winter and the height of summer.
Carrefour Market is a large hypermarché on the outskirts of Briançon, in the ‘centre d’activités du Sud’ (head in the direction of Gap from Briançon and turn left). It also has electronics, homeware and some clothing.
Aldi is also in the centre d’activités du Sud and has a large selection of pastries and snacks!
